The Great Debate produces no clear winners
VICTORIA — B.C. Premier John Horgan and Opposition Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson clashed in a feisty televised debate last night over electoral reform.
Horgan described Wilkinson and opponents of proportional representation of being afraid of change, describing the system as “modern” and even “hip.”
Horgan says proportional representation is used in progressive countries around the world while first-past-the-post in Canada has consistently made winners out of popular-vote losers.
But Wilkinson says voters are confused by the options for proportional representation on the ballot and he accused Horgan of refusing to answer questions about how the systems would work.
