Sam Smith writes song for Watership Down
Sam Smith, who won an Oscar for the James Bond theme “Writing’s on the Wall” from the movie Spectre has written and recorded another theme tune – for a Netflix miniseries about the rabbits of Watership Down, the classic Richard Adams novel about a group of brave rabbits who must find a new home after theirs is destroyed by humans.
The song is called “Fire on Fire,” and Sam co-wrote it with Steve Mac, the hitmaking songwriter/producer behind hits like Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” and Pink’s “What About Us.” Sam recorded it at London’s famed Abbey Road studios in September.
Sam said in a statement, “I am so excited and honored to be a part of this new adaptation of Watership Down. This story is so powerful and timeless, and it has been thrilling to work…on this song for it.”
Watership Down will air in December. The voice cast includes James McAvoy, John Boyega, Olivia Colman, Ben Kingsley, Daniel Kaluuya, Taron Egerton and Peter Capaldi.
