KAMLOOPS — UPDATE-  NOVEMBER 5TH-  5:00 AM-

The power is back on for the people of Sun Rivers after a major outage yesterday (Sunday, November 4).

The overall area affected extended from Paul Lake, through Sun Rivers and other parts of the Tk’emlups reserve lands.

Power was restored relatively quickly to most of the area, but a problem with the main switch to power in Sun Rivers created a lengthier outage for those residents. It wasn’t until late yesterday afternoon before crews restored the power to Sun Rivers residential area.

Power to Sun Rivers is supplied by Corix Utilities who purchase electricity from B.C. Hydro.

In response to complaints to Hydro about the outage, BC Hydro Spokersperson Dag Sharman said earlier  the cause of the outage was an equipment fire in Sun Rivers on the customer’s side of things.

Corix did not confirm the nature of the problem with the switch.

EARLIER— BC Hydro says the power is back on for nearly 2,000 of their customers in Kamloops, after an outage had residents in the dark for nearly two hours this morning.

The outage, stemming from Sun Rivers, where power is still out, spread up through to Paul Lake, and on Tk’emlups reserve lands.

BC Hydro Spokersperson Dag Sharman says the cause of the outage was an equipment fire on the customer’s side of things.

Sharman says that did limit how many customers BC Hydro could get power back on for until the customer involved repaired the equipment on their end, however the majority of those affected were able to get power restored.

Meanwhile, Corix Utilities crews are continuing work on site to restore power for the remaining customers in Sun Rivers.

In a statement, Corix says, “The latest from our crews is that power may be restored much sooner than expected, but no firm update to ETOR just yet. Thank you for your patience Sun Rivers.”
