Music News for Wednesday
JESSIE J CANCELS PERFORMANCES DUE TO ‘EXHAUSTION & MAJOR FATIGUE’: Jessie J announced that she’s canceling some concert dates because she has exhaustion and fatigue.”Hi everyone – I’m truly disappointed to tell you that due to exhaustion and major fatigue, I have been advised by a doctor to cancel tonight’s show in Dallas and Wednesday’s show in Phoenix. My mind is stronger than my body in this moment! I wish I could perform but I can’t,” the 30-year-old singer wrote on Instagram. She continued, “I will be resting for the next few days and will be back in full force for Los Angeles on Thursday. I am truly sorry to everyone who bought tickets and traveled so far to see the show. I feel awful. I hope you can understand I do all I can to perform every night at the standard I hold myself to and sometimes my health, well it’s simply out of my control. Thank you for your continued support, this tour has been amazing. I love you all!”
MAROON 5’S ‘GIRLS LIKE YOU’ THE LONGEST-RUNNING NO. 1 BY A GROUP IN MORE THAN FOUR YEARS: Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You” has just grabbed a sixth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The last time that happened was in July of 2014, when MAGIC! stayed at #1 for six weeks with their first – and so far, only – hit, “Rude.” Prior to MAGIC!, the last group to stay at No. 1 for such a long time was Maroon 5, again. They did it in 2012 when “One More Night” stayed on top for nine weeks. Meanwhile, “Girls Like You” is #1 for a 14th week on Billboard’s Radio Songs chart, which measures airplay only. That ties it with two other songs: Alicia Keys’ 2007 hit “No One” and Celine Dion’s 1996 hit “Because You Loved Me.” The only songs that have stayed at No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart longer are Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” and No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak,” both at 16 weeks, and the all-time champ, “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls, at 18 weeks.
