Ebus welcomes passengers in Kamloops on final day of Greyhound service

KAMLOOPS — When Greyhound announced it would be pulling its service out of western Canada passengers were panicked.

For many riders, the bus service was their only means of transportation between communities.

On Wednesday (Oct. 31) Greyhound loaded up its final passengers.

But, the provincial government says 83 per cent of bus routes in the province will be covered by private operators by year’s end.

In Kamloops, the Alberta company Ebus has picked up some of the routes out of the city.

“There’s certainly a demand for it in Alberta,” said Operations Supervisor for B.C., Glen Desjardine, “and with the departure of Greyhound that left a pretty big vacancy for the province of British Columbia, and we’re hoping to provide the same level of service that we do in Alberta here for the residents of British Columbia.”

The new service welcomed its first passengers Wednesday morning outside Sahali Mall, where the business is also working to secure a lease agreement for office space.

Ebus has rolled out a fleet of brand new, 55-seat coaches as it launches its service in B.C.

“We hope to deliver the level of service that the residents of British Columbia deserve and expect,” said Desjardine, who added safety and customer service are top priorities for Ebus.
