Kamloops RCMP change story on fatal hit and run — again

KAMLOOPS — Investigators don’t appear to be any closer to figuring out what vehicle struck and killed a 48-year-old pedestrian 10 days ago.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says, as the investigation into the Oct. 20 fatal hit and run continues, police are “learning more” about who was in the area at 1:30 a.m. on Seymour Street West.

“It appears that the blue car that was featured in a recently released surveillance video did not strike the victim, but they may have been a key witness to what happened that morning and police would like to speak with the occupants who were in the car at that time,” Shelkie says.

This is the second time in one week police have backtracked on which vehicle was potentially involved in the hit and run. Police first believed a silver Dodge Neon was involved, but after seizing a vehicle that matched the description, it was determined to not be involved.

On Oct. 25, RCMP changed the description of the vehicle to a “cobalt blue” car that was in the area around the time of the collision. Police didn’t confirm the pedestrian fatality was a hit and run until two days after the incident.

“Officers are analyzing several different videos from various areas of downtown Kamloops to determine what exactly happened and to identify the vehicle that struck the victim,” Shelkie says. “Numerous vehicles are seen in the area at the time of the collision and investigators continue to work towards identifying the suspect car and any potential witnesses.”

Police are asking the occupants of the blue car to contact them, or if you were in the downtown area on Oct. 20 around 1:30 a.m. as either a pedestrian or in a vehicle, to contact the police.
