Merritt couple frustrated over operating room closure at RIH
KAMLOOPS — An air exchange fan malfunction has led to a days-long closure of some operating rooms in Royal Inland Hospital, meaning people who were ready to go into surgery yesterday are being postponed.
Michael and Nicole Beauclair live in Merritt, and Nicole has been waiting for a surgery to treat a benign tumor on her uterus for roughly one month. It’s caused her plenty of issues, so she was anxiously awaiting her scheduled operation that was supposed to take place today, Oct. 26.
Nicole’s friend drove her to RIH yesterday for pre-surgical screening, but just a few hours after she returned home her husband Michael says they received a phone call that her surgery would be pushed.
“She was supposed to be in admitting at noon with an operation to follow later on that afternoon. That was for today,” Michael says. “Her energy level is kind of critical right now. She’s very frustrated, very upset, that’s about as much as I can say.”
