KAMLOOPS — A new piece of Words Alive Kamloops is kicking off today downtown.

The downtown Word Walk is part of the organization’s community day event taking place today, Oct. 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Tamara Vukusic is helping organize the word walk today, which she says will cater to people of all ages who have an interest in art, music and poetry.

“There’s about 15 activities being hosted by businesses in the 200, 300, and 400 blocks of Victoria Street, and we also have a station just around the corner on Fourth,” she says. “We’re going to have poetry buskers today, six of them… we’ve got old typewriters that have been fixed up that are waiting along the sidewalk in various places with questions for people to consider and lend their thoughts to.”

Vukusic says music is also in the mix today, with talented young people performing downtown.

“Music is in the mix with words, we have a couple of 13 year olds that are coming down to do some singing on the street piano outside Desert Rain Giftware,” Vukusic says, “and a young lady’s coming to play four original compositions and then her family is joining her for an a capella song that they wrote.”

Outside of CycleLogic you’ll have the chance to see how many words you can make using only the letters from the store’s name.

The event kicked off at 11:00 a.m. and will run until 3:00 p.m. Maps can be found on the Words Alive Kamloops website here.

“If you’re… at the library, or the Kamloops Museum and Archives, or anywhere in between along Victoria Street, look for the big green neon signs and just come and take part. We’d love to see you.”
