Fire scare evacuates rec complex in Williams Lake

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — A fire scare led to an evacuation at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex in Williams Lake last night (Monday, Oct. 15).

According to a release, staff members called the Williams Lake Fire Department at about 6:30 p.m. when someone smelled smoke coming from the rear roof area of the pool.

The complex was evacuated and firefighters were on the scene quickly, finding the source of the smoke and extinguishing it.

The department determined the threat had been eliminated and the public was allowed back in about an hour after the evacuation.
