New housing starts sign of healthy economy in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — The Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation is attributing increased housing starts in the month of September to a healthy Kamloops economy.

“What you’re seeing is there’s demand for housing in the Kamloops CMA which is generally due to a strong economy and people migrating to the area,” said Senior Media Relations Officer Len Catling.

Numbers released by CMHC Tuesday morning show there were 191 new housing starts in the city last month compared to 65 in September 2017.

Catling says construction of apartment units are driving the numbers.
