Rear-end crash sets off criminal escapade in Kamloops North Shore

KAMLOOPS — A 21 year old woman is behind bars today after causing some excitement on the Kamloops North Shore this morning.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie of Kamloops RCMP says the woman was behind the wheel of a car that rear-ended another vehicle in the 100-block of Tranquille Road.

Shelkie says the woman ran from the scene, and when an officer tracked her down, she struck him in the face.

“The female suspect did receive a facial injury. As well, our officer did receive a laceration to his forehead from her striking him,” said Shelkie.

The woman was taken into custody and RCMP have forwarded investigative information to Crown prosecutors for charge determination.

Alcohol is believed to have played a part in the woman’s actions, which Shelkie says escalated what was already a dangerous situation.

“Not only is it a concern that it may have been impaired driving, she was driving recklessly, she caused an accident, she did assault a police officer and she left the scene of an accident. So there are a few charges that she could potentially be looking at,” said Shelkie.
