VERNON, B.C. — A driver seen using a cell phone by police is now facing much more serious charges.

Police say the man failed to stop when ordered to do so during a distracted driving enforcement last Friday, and as he sped away, just missed hitting a city bus and another vehicle.

“The suspect vehicle continued to drive erratically through heavy traffic on 32nd Ave, allegedly swerving into on-coming traffic and disobeying traffic lights,” says Cst. Kelly Brett.

The vehicle crashed into a power pole at 43rd Avenue and 27th Street a few minutes later, when the driver tried to flee on foot, but was apprehended.
