KAMLOOPS — A major honour for the executive director of the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce.

Deb McClelland was appointed to the Council of Excellence by the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Canada (CCEC) this past week at a gala event in Ontario.

The CCEC honour is awarded to a current or retired Chamber of Commerce executive to recognize long-time outstanding service to the Chamber of Commerce/Board of Trade movement in Canada and for their contribution to CCEC and other professional development associations.

The award was no shock to Kamloops Chamber President Joshua Knaak.

“It was pleasant but it wasn’t a surprise because we’ve known all along how amazing Deb is,” he told CFJC Today. “And quite frankly it’s such a pleasure as a board member to go to BC Chamber and Canadian Chamber events because Deb is the continuity through various board members and presidents and she’s really done amazing work in establishing the Kamloops Chamber as one of the most well-respected chambers in Canada.”

“My Dad always taught me to surround myself with those who are smarter than myself and will lift me up,” McClelland added. “That is what my colleagues at CCEC are to me as well as my team at home: my husband who is my number one fan, my board of directors who support what I get to do, and my incredible staff who are the real champions.”
