MERRITT, B.C. — Dan Albas has a new shadow cabinet posting after Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer announced a shuffle of his front deck today.

The Central Okanagan-Similkameen-Nicola MP has moved from the small business portfolio to the Shadow Critic for Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Internal Trade.

“First of all, I’m very grateful to Andrew Scheer for giving me the opportunity to work in an area that I feel very passionate about,” he told CFJC Today. “Obviously I used to be a chamber of commerce advocate and part of the reason I got into political life was because of good policy — I wanted to see good ideas that will help Canadians overall. So, this portfolio speaks to that.”

And in assessing the Liberal government on this file, he wasn’t very complimentary.

“Unfortunately, the Trudeau Liberals seem to be more about giving out corporate welfare to large businesses rather than helping small and medium-sized enterprises grow into larger ones and seeing these barriers tear down,” Albas said.

“But it’s a complex area and I’m looking to not only hold the government to account for their spending in these areas but also trying to propose ideas that work for Canadians.”

Scheer announced 10 changes today while adding two new critic roles.

Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo Conservative MP Cathy McLeod retained her role as Shadow Critic for Indigenous and Northern Affairs.
