KAMLOOPS — Two people are in police custody after allegedly stealing a car and being in possession of drugs.

Staff Sgt. Mathias Van Laer says police attempted to stop the suspect vehicle at around 9:15 p.m. last night as it was travelling north over the Overlanders Bridge.

“The suspects, a 48 year old male driver and a 41 year old female passenger, refused to stop and attempted to elude police,” he says. “Overwhelmed by the police presence responding to this incident, the suspects abandoned the stolen vehicle on McGowan Avenue, near Wood Street and were observed running away.”

Van Laer says police then set up a perimeter and brought in a police dog within moments, leading to the capture of the pair.
