KAMLOOPS — A property that has sat empty on the North Shore for years will soon be the site of five single-family homes.

City Council voted 7-1 in favour of adopting staff recommendations on Tuesday night to subdivide the former Thrupp Manor on Royal Avenue into five single-family lots.

Following input from the public, including residents in the neighbourhood who were in favour of the single-family homes and others who argued for densification on the North Shore in line with the new Kam Plan, council felt it was the best use for the property.

“We heard from the Royal Avenue neighbourhood, as well as the McDonald Park Neighbourhood Association. They were comfortable with the proposal that was being presented,” said Kamloops mayor Ken Christian. “We also heard from staff that the money the city could receive through a seal-tender process would be more than they could get in other ways.”
