Kamloops-Thompson School District sets parameters for student activity in the smoke

KAMLOOPS — With no end in sight to air quality concerns across the region, the Kamloops-Thompson School District is making a plan to protect students’ health. 

Superintendent of Schools Alison Sidow says students will be staying inside when the Air Quality Health Index reaches a seven or higher.

“While we want students to be outside, burning energy, getting fresh air,” Sidow said, “when the Air Quality Index that we monitor from Interior Health shows that the air quality is moving into the high or extremely high risk areas then we do ensure that students are inside, and that they are not doing strenuous activity.”
