Suspect in Kamloops Denny’s standoff facing charges

KAMLOOPS — The man accused of barricading himself inside the Denny’s in downtown Kamloops last week is facing a raft of charges.

The standoff started at around 4 a.m. on Aug. 2 and lasted over 10 hours. It started when the man allegedly made a threat after receiving his bill.

He was arrested by members of the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team and taken into custody later that afternoon. No one was injured.

Justin Braden Hodge is facing charges of robbery, mischief, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats and breach of probation.

He has a bail hearing scheduled for Aug. 13 at the Kamloops Law Courts.

Hodge, who was born in 1989, has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2008.
