KCBIA beautifies Downtown Kamloops with new murals

KAMLOOPS — There’s plenty of colour in downtown Kamloops these days, as more murals are added through the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association’s Back Alley Art Gallery Project.

The KCBIA has been involved in the project since 2010.

There are currently 26 murals downtown, including a recently completed bear on the side of the ReMax building on Seymour Street.

Another mural project will get underway behind Zak’s Coffee next week.

In addition to beautifying the city’s downtown and attracting tourists, the murals are also a deterrent for vandals.

“Research has shown that there’s a respect for murals from people who are so inclined to pursue graffiti installations,” said KCBIA Executive Director Carl DeSantis. “And, if you take a walk around the back alleys there’s a lot of respect shown for that artwork and they’re typically not tampered with or damaged, so that’s really good.”
