Kamloops Airport opens brand new floatplane dock

“This is probably the largest project we’ve undertaken on behalf of the general aviation community here at the airport in recent years,” McCarley explained. “It’s been so well received. We’ve worked closely with the BC Floatplane Association and the South Airport Operators to get their expertise and their feedback to make sure the project will work for them going forward.”

The new floatplane dock is not only an improvement on the old facility, as it could also open up the facilities at Fulton Field to commercial carriers or float plane owners meaning opportunities for increased tourism throughout the region.

“We need to take advantage of that situation economically,” Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian told the gathered guests and media. “[We need to] make sure we are able to provide the services to float plane operators, both locally… but also those who will use this as a point of entry into Canada.”

“It does open us up for additional traffic from other locations, for float planes,” McCarley said. “The word is spreading that Kamloops has a functional and beautiful float plane base.”
