Lightning sparks 40 new wildfires Tuesday night

KAMLOOPS — Tuesday night was a busy one for the BC Wildfire Service.

Fire Information Officer Claire Allen says there were 40 new fire starts – 20 of them in the Kamloops Fire Centre – predominately in the Okanagan and Similkameen area.

“That number is expected to increase today as more fires are discovered as well as the fact that there is still a thunderstorm warning in some areas across southern and central B.C.”

To her knowledge, she says no structures have been lost. 

Allen also reminds people to be careful with their fire use.

“Any human-caused wildfires divert our resources away from the naturally caused wildfires. So, be cautious.”
