Students celebrate a year of accomplishments at Kamloops School of the Arts

“We have a number of certificates and awards,” said Principal Syd Griffith. “In our school we’re Kindergarten to Grade 12. So, we did a big awards ceremony for the older kids last week. This week we’re doing one for the Kindergarten to Grade seven students.”

Griffith has been principal at the School of the Arts for two years and says the school has quickly become family.

“There’s a real family atmosphere here, and I’m really enjoying getting to know the students a lot better,” she said. “I feel very privileged that I get to be with the younger students, and see them grow, and then hang out with the older students and get to know them too.”

However, she says she and other staff members are ready for a break.

“I’m going to miss the kids for sure, the staff is amazing, but we’re pretty tired at this time of the year, I must say. We’re looking forward to sleeping in and doing what we need to do in our private lives, hobbies, and healthy living.”

Students also had mixed emotions as they packed up their belongings and said goodbye to their friends for the summer.
