Kamloops’ Stewart first in para shot put at Harry Jerome Classic

KAMLOOPS — Greg Stewart from Kamloops placed first in his category in the para shot put at the Harry Jerome Track and Field Classic last night.

Stewart had a throw of 15.61 metres.

That was good for third overall, behind two able bodied athletes.

A weekend and a half ago Stewart had a personal best throw of 15.80 metres to win a meet in Arizona, and moved into first place in the world rankings in his category.

Born with only one arm, Stewart has excelled in several sports —- including basketball with the TRU WolfPack.

Stewart, who hopes to qualify for the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo, is coached by Olympic medalist Dylan Armstrong.
