KAMLOOPS — If you’re planning on buying groceries this weekend, you may want to consider heading to Save-On-Foods for an opportunity to help a Kamloops non-profit organization.

All across Western Canada, the grocery chain is donating a portion of their sales to food banks in local communities, including here Kamloops. With every Western Family product sold, 25% of the cost of those items will be donated to the local food bank.

“All five of our stores in Kamloops this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 25% of the net proceeds from all sales of Western Family products are going to be donated to the local food bank,” Save-On-Foods Sahali Store Manager Neil Allkins explained. “All of our stores in western Canada will be doing the same for their local food banks, up to a total company donation of $250,000.”

Allkins says Save-On-Foods works regularly with the Kamloops Food Bank, and that this initiative comes down from the top of the grocery chain.

“I believe it was through our president, Darrell Jones,” Allkins said. “He’s been a big promoter and supporter of the food bank… hopefully, this will be the first of many promotions like this that we do.”
