Man charged in Barnhartvale meth lab bust pleads guilty, receives three-year sentence

KAMLOOPS — One of three men charged in a 2015 bust of a methamphetamine “superlab” in Barnhartvale has been sentenced to three years in federal prison.

Derek Sadden pleaded guilty to one count each of possession for the purpose of trafficking and production of a controlled substance.

Justice Alison Beames delivered the sentence in B.C. Supreme Court this morning.

Sadden was one of three men charged after the June 2015 bust of a methamphetamine production lab on Pratt Road in Barnhartvale.

At the time of dismantling the operation, Kamloops RCMP said the lab was capable of producing 60,000 individual doses every two to three days.

Police said the lab was linked to organized crime.

Prosecutor Kristina Guest says the other two men, Ikbal Shah and Joel Garrett, have pleaded not guilty to several charges against them.

The trial for Shah and Garrett began this morning, and Guest says it is scheduled for two weeks.
