Music in the Park returns to Kamloops for its 25th year

Jun 6, 2018 | 5:32 PM

KAMLOOPS — It’s back for its 25th year entertaining the city. Music in the Park is celebrating its silver anniversary this year, and this week the schedule for the 2018 outdoor concert series was announced.

The nightly concert series begins on Canada Day at Riverside Park and runs every night throughout the summer, with a weekly show at McDonald Park in North Kamloops. This year will see food trucks and beer vendors down at the park once a week. Music in the Park Organizer Henry Small is excited about a number of artists who will be playing throughout the summer.

“[There will be] some great tribute acts. I love Tom Petty, so we’re doing a Pure Petty Tribute. Gord Bamford, Canadian legend in country music is coming. Sue Foley, another kind of legendary figure is coming,” Small said. “There’s just a whole slew of entertainers who will be here throughout the summer.”

Small has been involved with organizing the summer concert series since its inception a quarter-century ago. He says Music in the Park has endured because of its ability to attract a broad spectrum of visitors and Kamloops locals down to one of the great spaces within the city.

“We have one of the most beautiful settings at the bandshell,” Small said. “The park is a beautiful park, people that come to play always say the same thing. They just think it’s an amazing venue to play in.”
