Public asked to weigh in on volunteer monument

KAMLOOPS — Want your say on Kamloops’ next piece of public art? If yes, then the Thompson-Nicola Regional District would love to hear from you.

The monument will recognize all volunteers and their contributions year round. It will be placed outside Sandman Centre.

The TNRD says they chose that location because the arena has been a popular spot for numerous community events through the years, including housing many evacuees affected by last year’s terrible wildfires.

Following a call for submissions, a public art jury has narrowed down the field to three finalists.

Small-scale models of the finalists will be displayed at seven different TNRD library locations in June, where the public can vote on their favourite.

“The ‘people’s choice’ vote will make up one seat on the deciding jury, which will be made up of representatives from the City of Kamloops and the TNRD,” reads a TNRD news release.

The models can be seen at the following libraries on the following dates:

  • Clearwater Library: May 31-June 2
  • Barriere Library: June 6-9
  • Clinton Library: June 12-14
  • Cache Creek Library: June 16-20
  • Ashcroft Library: June 21-23
  • N. Kamloops Library: June 25-27
  • Kamloops Library: June 28-July 3
