Cooler temperatures and possibly thunderstorms headed Kamloops’ way

KAMLOOPS — The above average temperatures Kamloopsians have been enjoying the past month or so are about to end.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Cindy Yu says Kamloops is about to experience an upper trough which is expected to linger over the region for at least the next few days.

“So, today is probably the last day where we’ll see temperatures in the high 20s,” she says. “Starting tomorrow, we should see temperatures going down to seasonal values. We will be seeing temperatures in the high teens and low 20s.”

However, with that trough comes the chance of showers and thunderstorms.

“The threats for each day differ so we’ll have to see how things play out. I think overall the big picture here is really that we’re having a bit of a weather pattern change and our temperatures will be cooler with a chance of precipitation.”

Will it be enough rain to put a dent on the wildfires in the Kamloops Fire Centre?

“When it comes to fire weather, accumulative precipitation in the long run is the key here,” Yu says. “So, even though we’re seeing a little bit of a weather pattern change here we’ll have to see how the next couple of weeks will play out.”

She says average highs for this time of year in Kamloops is 23 degrees.

“So, our forecast temperature this week will be seasonal to slightly below seasonal.”
