The Picture Perfect Wedding

After a picture-perfect royal wedding, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle celebrated by releasing their official wedding portraits Monday.
Taken by fashion photographer Alexi Lubomirski (he also snapped their engagement pics) in the Green Drawing Room at Windsor Castle after their carriage procession, they show a gathering of the entire royal family, the bridal party and Ms. Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland.
- “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex would like to thank everyone who took part in the celebrations of their wedding on Saturday. They feel so lucky to have been able to share their day with all those gathered in Windsor and also all those who watched the wedding on television across the U.K., Commonwealth, and around the world,” a Kensington Palace spokesperson said.
- Other photographs feature just the bride and groom, and the lovebirds with their bridal party.
- Also Monday, the Palace released her official royal bio, which focused more on her feminist ideals than her background as an actress. (In fact, it didn’t mention her career in Hollywood once).
- The first few paragraphs make it clear that Ms. Markle will bring her work as an activist and philanthropist into her life as a royal. While royals traditionally avoid getting political, the palace appears to have changed things up with Ms. Markle.
- The bio notes, in part: “In 2015, The Duchess became the UN Women’s Advocate for Women’s Political Participation and Leadership. In this role, she gave a speech on the importance of gender equality on International Women’s Day for UN Women in New York City. Ahead of her appointment to this role, Her Royal Highness spent time at the UN’s New York office to understand the organisation’s day-to-day work before embarking on a learning mission to Rwanda. On this trip The Duchess met female parliamentarian leaders in Kigali and visited Gihembe refugee camp, where women were working on leadership and empowerment at a grassroots level.”
- It also included a quote from Ms. Markle, saying: “I am proud to be a woman and a feminist.”
