McGill Road rehab expected to cause disruptions

KAMLOOPS — Motorists beware: another road project is set to start in Kamloops and there will be traffic disruptions.

This time the City of Kamloops has contracted BA Dawson Blacktop to carry out rehabilitation work on McGill Road between Bunker Road and Hillside Drive.

“The project includes concrete replacement on the curb, gutters and sidewalks, replacement of catch basins, milling and paving, and pavement marking and signage,” says Capital Projects Manager Darren Crundwell.

He says construction is slated to begin next week and expects it to be completed by mid-July. Most of the work will take place Monday to Friday with the possibility of some Saturday and evening work.

Business and pedestrian access will be maintained, though bus stops along McGill may be temporarily relocated.

Crundwell adds crews will do their best to maintain traffic through the corridor but warns there will be some delays.

“Obviously, it’s a really busy corridor but if people can avoid it we definitely encourage that. It will be down to single-lane alternating at certain times,” he says. “We’ll try to maintain two-lane traffic as best we can and try to limit disruptions but there will definitely be impacts from the repaving.”

He says the total project cost has been pegged at $600,000.
