Wildfire breaks out near Campbell Creek Road

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE- 6:00 AM  Tuesday May 15-  A one hectare wildfire continued to smolder last night in the Campbell Creek area. The fire is believed to have been caused by pile burning.

26 firefighting personnel responded to the scene and several crew members worked late into the evening to put out hotspots. 

Fire Information Officer Jody Lucius said although there were structures nearby, the fire was not considered to be an interface fire. 

EARLIER—  A one-hectare wildfire has broken out in the Campbell Creek area of Kamloops.

“The BC Wildfire Service is responding to a wildfire near Campbell Creek Road,” says Fire Information Officer Jody Lucius. “The fire is approximately one hectare in size and there are 26 people either en route or on site at that fire at this time.”

She says the cause is unknown at this time but suspects it was human-caused. Lucius says the fire is not considered an interface fire.

“Not at this moment. It is relatively close to structures but it is currently burning away from homes. So, we’re not considering any of those structures threatened at this time.”

Lucius says the one bird dog aircraft has been sent to the area to see if any additional support is needed.
