KAMLOOPS — It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, a day to shower your mom with love and gifts.

Kathy Underwood, the owner of Kamloops Florist on Seymour Street, is busy arranging flowers for Mother’s Day, as is the rest of her staff.

“The last week has been very, very busy. I think Mother’s Day has been Valentine’s four times over,” says Underwood. “We’ve got four drivers full-time today, five tomorrow. We’ve got the shop full of designers and tons and tons of flowers.”

Underwood, who has two boys, knows the importance of a day to celebrate moms. She says others clearly feel the same way and have been ordering up bouquets.

“It’s all ages, all walks of life. We’ve got people phoning in from all over the country, all over the world who can’t be with their moms and just want to send them something special.”

Flowers are just one part of Mother’s day. There’s the love, tenderness, and for some, wine. At Privato Winery, there is a brunch happening on Sunday and wine tasting that’s free for all moms.

“Whether you attend the brunch or not, we also have the wine gardens open if you’d like to bring her out for a picnic and enjoy the beautiful weather. You’re welcome to come,” says Privato co-owner Debbie Woodward.

Meantime, the B.C. Wildlife Park has a special day planned for moms and families, including an artisan market and yoga.

“Clarity Yoga will be out there. We do some yoga in the park. Another great activity for people to get involved in,” notes general manager Glenn Grant. “Blackwell Dairy will be coming down with a dairy calf, talk a little bit about getting back into production up there. 4-H will be there with some baby lambs. I know we have the other stuff we usually have open. The Home Hardware’s Family Farm will be open. Wildlife Express will be operating for a nice train ride. So there’s lots to do.”

Kamloops florist says it’s too late now to order, as they’re still putting together arrangements for Saturday and Sunday deliveries.

But whatever you do for your mom, make it special.
