B.C.’s unemployment rate still the best in Canada
OTTAWA — B.C.’s unemployment rate continues to be the best in Canada. Figures released today show B.C.’s rate did rise, going up three-tenths of a point in April, to an even 5.0 percent, from 4.7 percent in March. But still the best in the country, ahead
of the 5.4 percent rate in Quebec, the second best rate among the provinces and territories.
Nationally, wage growth hit its highest level in nearly six years last month as the economy posted a net loss of 1,100 jobs and an unemployment rate that held steady at 5.8 per cent.
Statistics Canada’s latest jobs report shows wages in April were up 3.6 per cent compared with a year ago, the largest increase since October 2012.
