KAMLOOPS — Thompson Rivers University is set for a major facelift.

The school has announced it is investing $5 million in Old Main classroom renovations scheduled to begin this summer.

TRU says the work will include major improvements on the buildings first and second floors.

Renovations will include new flooring and paint along with redesigned classrooms.

“Rather than rows of tables, classrooms may have various seating arrangements to encourage collaborative and active learning, as well as student engagement,” reads a news release.

TRU says each room will be outfitted with new furniture, upgraded infrastructure such as improved lighting and additional electrical outlets to support laptop use and updated multimedia capabilities.

There will also be soundproofing between classrooms and better lighting in the hallways.

TRU says the updates will take place over four phases with work expected to be finished in March of 2019.

Given the work timetable however, TRU says some classes will be accommodated through portables from September through to the completion date in March.
