Barnhartvale Road to close Saturday night due to high water

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE- May 6th- 8:00 AM-   Barnhartvale Road in the 7200 block is still closed this morning because of the rising waters of Campbell Creek.

The City was allowing alternating traffic until last night, but because of the rising water, and a need to protect public safety, the road was closed at 8:00 PM.

Traffic control is in effect at both ends of the closure, which is near the Barnhartvale Hall, and residents are being asked to detour via Blackwell Road.

Sand and sandbags are available at the Barnhartvale Hall for those who need it. You’re asked to bring your own shovel.

In a news release,City Emergency Program Coordinator Dan Sutherland says the City will continue to monitor the situation and keep the public apprised if the situation changes.

EARLIER-  The City of Kamloops plans to close Barnhartvale Road at 8:00 pm Saturday night, due to Campbell Creek flooding the roadway.

The city issued a news release alerting residents to the closure this afternoon. Traffic control people will be stationed at either end of the closed stretch of road to ensure the safety of motorists. There is a detour available on Blackwell Road.

The release also stated there are sand and sandbags available to area residents at the Barnhartvale Hall. Residents are asked to bring their own shovel.

The City said they plan to monitor the water levels and will be providing updates as necessary.
