Kamloops casting call: extras needed to play Taliban

KAMLOOPS — Looking for some work in the film industry? Well, you’re in luck.

The Thompson-Nicola Film Commission has put out an extras casting call for this Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Plaza Hotel.

The Canadian independent film, “Red Snow” will film in and around Kamloops from May 7 to May 26.

The film’s story takes place in Kandahar, Afghanistan, where an Indigenous solider from the Northwest Territories is being held hostage.

“Surprise, surprise, we are doubling as Kandahar,” says Film Commissioner Victoria Weller. “And so we need people of dark complexion who could pass, with the right wardrobe, as a solider in Afghanistan or Taliban, things like that.”

She’s also looking for young women from the ages of 20 to 34 to play Afghan women and people who can play Afghan children, ages seven to nine, girls and boys.

“And one of the boys will be the photo double for the young actor in the movie. So, we need a wide variety of people.”

Weller says all applicants must be Canadian citizens or have valid work permits and must be available for 12-hour days during the week.

Preference will be given to persons who live or have their own accommodation in Kamloops.
