Chase-area wildfire human-caused

CHASE — The BC Wildfire Service says the wildfire that broke out late Thursday afternoon near Chase was human-caused.

Fire Information Officer Jody Lucius with the Kamloops Fire Centre says the two-hectare blaze is located around six kilometres southwest of Chase.

“The BC Wildfire Service has five firefighters returning to the site today and they are working alongside the local fire department to minimize any potential flare-ups on that fire over the weekend.”

She adds people need to take the proper precautions when outdoors.

“We definitely want people to be aware that grass is drying up out there and wildfire is definitely a concern. Just making sure if you do choose to have a fire on your landscape or a campfire that you do have the proper tools and equipment available should you need to put that out.”
