Bump in liquor server wage could mean bump in prices at Kamloops pub

KAMLOOPS — The B.C. government has laid out its plans to increase the minimum wage for liquor servers to match the general minimum wage by 2021. 

The first jump is scheduled to take place this June, when servers will see an increase of $1.30 per hour. 

According to Operations Manager at the Noble Pig Brewhouse, Maeghan Summers, it’s a substantial bump. 

 “We’ve had a few where it’s been around the 80 cent mark, around the 60 cent mark, but this is going to be one of the larger bumps that we’ve had over the last few years.”

Summers says anytime wages increase at the Noble Pig so do prices.

“It is a reality of business operators finding creative solutions,” Summers said. “In this instance we are going to have a very minimal bump that happens in our pricing. That’s reflective of the cost of our goods coming into our kitchen, the cost of goods to produce beer, the cost of goods just in general have risen.”
