WolfPack Baseball gets off the Schnied with a four win weekend

“This weekend, we put it all together,” WolfPack Head Coach Ray Chadwick said after the game. “We had some great pitching and we swung the bats in all four games, so we ended up breaking out of it and getting a 4-and-0 weekend against a team that was 8-and-1 and leading the league.”

The WolfPack won 9-8 in extra innings in game one on Saturday night, then rode Tyler Moskalyk’s right arm to a 7-4 victory in the back end of that doubleheader. Moskalyk set the WolfPack single-game strikeout record in that game with 18.

“My slurve was working really well,” Moskalyk said of his record-setting performance. “When you can locate your fastball on each side of the plate and you have that slurve that’s kind of the put-out pitch, that’s what was working well.”

On Sunday, TRU beat VIU 9-6 and 4-0 en route to the weekend sweep.

Before this weekend, the ‘Pack had a record of 3 wins and 8 losses, but after taking all four against VIU, Moskalyk says it looks like the team is busting out of that slump they seemed to be in to start their season.

“Some weekends we’d have really good pitching and the hitting wasn’t there. This weekend we put it all together,” Moskalyk said.

Chadwick believes some of that inconsistency stemmed from the fact the ‘Pack have been unable to spend as much time practising outdoors due to the cool, wet weather. He’s hoping as the weather warms up, his team stays hot heading into the CCBC Championships TRU will be hosting in May.

“Having to play on the weekends and then go back indoors for the whole week was a struggle,” he explained. “I hope this is a sign of things to come… If we can play like this hopefully we can fill the stands.”
