VICTORIA — B.C. Premier John Horgan was on the heat seat during question period in Victoria Wednesday.

The  B.C. Liberal opposition peppered the premier with questions focused on having him confirm whether or not he had received legal advice from the civil service advising he no longer talk about stopping the Kinder Morgan expansion project.

“He didn’t even listen to his own environment minister earlier this week who said when receiving legal advice about what we can and cannot do to act on things in any other manner would be a demonstration of bias,” alleged Kamloops-South Thompson Liberal MLA Todd Stone.

“Let me get something straight,” added Kamloops-North Thompson Liberal MLA Peter Milobar. “The premier is told at the very beginning by goverment lawyers that we can’t actually stop the Trans Mountain project, it’s federal jurisdiction. But clearly the premier still wants to stop the project so he starts a trade war, angers the federal government and destroys our business climate.”

For his part, Premier Horgan refused to answer the question directly and instead gave the following response.

“What we were advised was that we could not withhold permits without reasonable expectations that that was being done in the interest of British Columbia,” he said.

“We continue to issue permits as they’ve been requested. What we are doing and what I’ve said from the beginning is we’ve entered into a court proceeding – already underway before we were sworn in as government – to make the case that the risks to B.C. were not adequately addressed by the National Energy Board.”:
