Gourlay pleads guilty to two charges in fatal hit-and-run

KAMLOOPS — 43 year old Kamloops man Jason Gourlay has pleaded guilty to  two of three charges related to the fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of 16 year old Jennifer Gatey.

Gourlay pleaded guilty for failing to remain at the scene of the accident and for destroying evidence.

The crash took place on Pacific Way in November 2016, not far from Pacific Way Elementary School, and happened on the eve of Gatey’s 17th birthday.

The crown is asking for a jail sentence of 11 to 14 months.

Gourlay has already served three months and has five months credit.

The defense is asking for time served.

No word yet on when he’ll be sentenced.
