Private members bill aims to protect landlords from over-cultivation of medical marijuana plants
KAMLOOPS — Cathy McLeod plans to stand up for landlords once MPs return to the House of Commons next week.
The Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo Conservative MP will introduce a Private Member’s Bill, C-330, which would require landlords’ consent before medical marijuana plants can be grown on their property.
“People might not be aware but the medical regime and the proposed recreational regime for marijuana are very different,” she says. “With the recreational regime, you can in some cases grow four plants in a home. With the medical there can be 60 plants or more and for the landlords they no have control over it. It’s a real concern.”
As a result, McLeod says “many landlords have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in terms of their investments.”
