Mayor of Kamloops disappointed in suspension of Trans Mountain pipeline
KAMLOOPS — With Kinder Morgan’s announcement it is suspending all activity around the twinning of the Trans Mountain pipeline, the mayor of Kamloops is disappointed with a delay in the project.
Ken Christian says Kamloops would receive $750,000 from Kinder Morgan during construction if the project goes ahead. The city would also benefit with about $1 million in taxes every year.
“There’s certainly a financial hit for us,” he said. “A lot of that supports some of the social programs that we’ve been doing. Increased transit, better housing, better recreational opportunity. You have to balance those kinds of things.”
