Kamloops celebrates 48th Easter Vintage Vehicle Parade

KAMLOOPS — It’s an Easter weekend tradition, dating back nearly fifty years. Every Easter Sunday, the Kamloops Chapter of the Vintage Car Club of Canada holds its annual parade of vintage vehicles. For one Kamloops family, the event was a trip down memory lane.

For the past 48 years, the Kamloops Chapter of the Vintage Car Club of Canada has been holding their annual Easter Parade.

“Every year, it’s a little more special,” Kamloops Chapter President Dick p Parkes told CFJC Today. “There are not many events in Kamloops that have lasted for 48 years, so it’s nice to keep the tradition going.”

Cars from bygone eras dating as far back as the early 1900’s gathered at the Dune’s Sunday morning, before making the journey up Westsyde Road, through the city to Riverside Park, where hundreds of interested Kamloopsians took the opportunity to come down for a look at some of the classic vehicles.

“You can talk to 100 people, and hear 100 different reasons,” why the event is so popular, according to Parkes. “Nostalgia or my Dad had one of those, or I fixed up one of those, or crashed one of those.”

For one family, it was a chance to celebrate their history. Maureen Beruschi had the pleasure of riding in her grandfather’s 1928 Dodge Brothers Sedan, which brought back a flood of memories.

“I cam here and went to school, to St. Ann’s Academy in the ’60s,” Beruschi said. “My grandfather used to take us for rides, he was very proud of this car.”

The family kept the vehicle for years after Maureen’s grandfather had passed, and finally decided to donate it to a group who could restore it to its former glory.

“Our family has given this wonderful 1928 Dodge to the Vintage Car Club of Kamloops,” Beruschi explained. “It’ll always stay here, and I hope that Kamloops enjoys this wonderful car.”

It’s a donation the club certainly appreciates.

“This car has basically never been touched,” Parkes said. “To find a car like that – 90 years old, in original condition, and runnable – is really quite amazing.”
