VANCOUVER —   The B-C School Trustees Association is welcoming 198-million dollars in funding from the provincial government for maintenance and repairs at schools.

The association says districts have long been advocating for more funding to address concerns surrounding building maintenance, school buses, facility upgrades, energy saving projects and other similar project.

Association president Gordon Swan says the funding is a clear signal that the province is prioritizing young people and providing them with what they need to make the most of the classroom experience.

The Education Ministry says the funds will go toward upgrading heating and cooling systems, sprinkler and fire alarm systems and at sellect schools, the installation of solar panels, that can help save on electricity costs and reinvest money back in the classroom.
