KAMLOOPS — It appears KGHM International has quietly made its exit from Kamloops.
The Polish mining giant was behind a proposal to build an open pit copper-gold mine on the southern edge of the city.
After about six years of planning, the company’s Ajax proposal was denied an environmental certificate by the provincial and federal governments last December.
After the denial was announced, KGHM-Ajax Project Manager Chris Wild left some room that the company might return with a revamped proposal.
However, layoffs at the local headquarters followed a few weeks later.
The company’s Seymour Street office is now closed, with a “For Lease” sign posted on the outside of the building.
