WILLIAMS LAKE — The B-C Wildfire Service is launching preventative open burns near Williams Lake following last year’s historic wildfire season.
The service says a series of burns began yesterday in the area of Horse Lake and will continue through June 30th.
The burns are intended to mitigate the risk of wildfires by thinning and spacing out trees, and removing excess fuels.
Pile burning may be cancelled depending on weather conditions, and the service says efforts are being made to prevent communities from getting too smoky.
