CLAIRE FOY BREAKS SILENCE ON THE CROWN PAY GAP: Claire Foy is ready to talk about the fact that she got paid less than her Crown costar Matt Smith. The producers of The Crown at Left Bank Pictures have apologized for the difference in pay, and have promised it wouldn’t happen again. (They argued that Smith had a higher profile following his stint on Doctor Who). “I’m surprised because I’m at the center of it, and anything that I’m at the center of like that is very, very odd, and feels very, very out of ordinary,” Foy, 33, told Entertainment Weekly. “But I’m not [surprised about the interest in the story] in the sense that it was a female-led drama,” she continued. “I’m not surprised that people saw [the story] and went, ‘Oh, that’s a bit odd.’ But I know that Matt feels the same that I do, that it’s odd to find yourself at the center [of a story] that you didn’t particularly ask for.” Critics have advocated for Smith and Netflix CEO Reed Hastings to make up for the “sexist pay gap” and donate the differences in their paychecks to Time’s Up. It wouldn’t be unprecedented. When it was revealed that Mark Wahlberg got paid $1.5 million more than Michelle Williams for reshoots of All the Money in the World, he donated the funds to Time’s Up.
PRODUCTION ON CAPTAIN MARVEL BEGINS AS FAN FAVES JOIN CAST: Marvel Studios has started principal photography on Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson as the titular hero. The studio also announced that agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), Korath the Pursuer (Djimon Hounsou) and Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) are joining the party, along with Samuel L. Jackson, Gemma Chan, McKenna Grace, Jude Law, Lashana Lynch, Ben Mendelsohn, Algenis Perez Soto and Rune Temte.
COLE SPROUSE & LILI REINHART ADDRESS DATING RUMORS: Riverdale costars Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart have remained mum on their rumored romance, until now. A fan asked them during a panel at PaleyFest over the weekend, and after they became tongue-tied and awkward (and violently blushed), he laughingly mumbled “no comment” into the mic after asking the fan: “Is that the question or the statement? Because you’re right.”
RON JEREMY CLEARED IN SEX ASSAULT PROBE: Ron Jeremy won’t face sexual assault charges for an alleged incident in September of 2017. A radio station model reportedly claimed he groped her buttocks and touched her vagina over her underwear without her consent. Police have reviewed footage of the incident and turned what they found over to the Tacoma City Attorney’s Office, who declined to press charges. Jeremy has been accused of misconduct several times.
