Insp. Syd Lecky new officer in charge of Kamloops RCMP

KAMLOOPS — The search is over for the new head of the Kamloops RCMP detachment.

Inspector Syd Lecky has been chosen to replace the departing Supt. Brad Mueller.

Lecky has spent the previous four-and-a-half years in Terrace with the last two years in charge of the Terrace detachment. He joined the RCMP in June of 1996 and was first posted to Kelowna for eight years.

Lecky has also made stops in Gold River, Mackenzie and Prince George where he was an Advisory Non-Commissioned Officer of the Aboriginal Policing program throughout the North.

During those years he traveled throughout the North working with detachments and First Nations communities.

“I am excited to work with City of Kamloops, residents, businesses and those agencies working with marginalized persons to enhance and champion initiatives that will keep our community safe,” he said in a statement. “As a proud member of the Passamaquoddy Nation (in New Brunswick)I also look forward to working with the Shuswap Nation served by the Kamloops detachment including Skeetchestn, Tk’emlups and the Whispering Pines/Clinton Indian Band.”

“We’re excited to welcome Inspector Lecky to our community,” said Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian. “We’ve been fortunate to have amazing dedication and leadership at the Kamloops RCMP, and I’m confident Inspector Lecky will continue that tradition.”

Outgoing Supt. Brad Mueller called Lecky’s hire “an excellent choice.”

“I am confident that he will be dedicated to the job and continue to advance the quality service delivery and public safety mandate of the detachment in the City of Kamloops.”

No word yet on when Lecky will start his new job. Once he does, however, he will be formally promoted to the rank of Superintendent.
