YMCA-YWCA Strong Kids Campaign fundraiser underway

KAMLOOPS — $100,000 for 1,000 kids.

That’s the fundraising goal of the Kamloops YMCA-YWCA’s annual Strong Kids Campaign this year.

Director of Programs, Violence Against Women Intervention and Support Services Jacquie Brand says all dollars raised will go toward youth and child programs.

“We have a bunch of programs at the Y; everything from Power of Being a Girl, Strength in Being a Boy, summer camp, after-school care and also supported memberships,” she says. “So, families that might not have the financial means to purchase a membership, we can actually supplement that with the Strong Kids dollars.”

Brand says the programs provide invaluable support for local kids.

“Kids feel included at the Y, they’re a part of something. There’s a place to go, there’s a safe place to be. If anything was to happen there’s a lot of adults they’re connected to at the Y that they can share with and the whole family is supported.”

If you’d like to donate, you can do so in person at the Y’s downtown office or the John Tod Centre on the North Shore. You can also donate online or through a number of third party fundraisers that you can learn about on the Y Strong Kids Facebook page.

The campaign wraps up March 4.
